Washington Workshops Congressional Seminar Essay Contest

This is a major project of The Society held under the auspices of the Washington Workshops Foundation, a private nonprofit educational program in American government for high school students.  Winners of an annual national essay contest sponsored by The NSCDA are sent to Washington, D.C. for a week of citizenship education about the national government.  

In 2007, 72 students were sponsored by the Dames.

The essay topic for 2007 was "What influence and impact do the media have on each of the three branches of government in the United States today?"  Read two winning essays:  A or B.

The topic for 2008 is "If you were a presidential candidate, what domestic issue would you consider most important and what would you do about it?"   Information sheet for 2008  and  application for 2008.
