THE 2007 WASHINGTON WORKSHOPS EXPERIENCE

(Excerpts taken from reports of the 2007 participants)

“One thing that stood out was the quality of the speakers. Where else would one be able to hear a lecture from a college professor and diplomat, joke with a satirist, watch a briefing from a major general and listen to a presentation at an actual embassy in the span of a few days..”

“Being amongst other extremely motivated students was especially exciting.”

"The outstanding caliber and variety in speakers (generals, reporters, lobbyists, college professors, politicians, etc.) was a tremendous learning experience."

“I definitely felt like this seminar gave us an exclusive view of US Government, and it was fascinating to see these things up close. Spending time on the Hill was incredible .”

“I came away with a better appreciation for, and understanding of, our country's rich history.”

“Getting together with my peers from all over the country to discuss important issues facing our nation was enlightening. It was amazing how a group of students from such different backgrounds could come together and form solutions to these vital issues.”

“It was refreshing to hear both sides of the issues our nation faces today... this bipartisan quest for understanding and knowledge was one of the greatest attributes of the seminar.”

“I was able to engage in conversations with senators and representatives from my state and others..”

"It was great to have time to explore the National Mall, museums, Capital building, office buildings, monuments and memorials.”

“This program gives teens such an important understanding of just how the federal government operates, allowing them to incorporate it into their future studies and activities.”

“All three counselors were responsible and dependable, but at the same time friendly and outgoing. Unexpected situations were handled professionally and maturely. They treated us as equals.”

“In the Mock Congress I was able to understand a bit more about the checks and balances system as well as learning and experiencing why it takes so long to get things done.”

“I spent the week with the best and brightest of our nation..."

“The seminar was one of the best experiences I have ever had. I'd return in a heartbeat!”

“Not only did this experience broaden my knowledge of politics, but it allowed me to broaden my social horizons as well. I was able to interact with people from all across the country and build friendships with highly motivated individuals."

“The model congress was amazing, and lobbying to get our bills passed was a novel experience.”
