About
This simple structure built of handmade bricks remains on its original site, having survived floods, fires, hurricanes, ice storms and devastating neglect. Owned by the City of Monroe, it is leased to the Monroe Town Committee of the Louisiana Society who began the effort in 1962 to preserve the vacant building. Built as a home, the structure soon became the law office of Isaiah Garrett, West Point graduate and a leader in the state. The museum received the Louisiana Preservation Alliance’s prestigious “SPECIAL AWARD 1994”.National Register of Historic Places
